Germany 2015
From the small town of Sexsmith, Canada, to the slightly less small town of Soltau, Germany. This is the story behind a move of 7,000km.
What? and How?
Exchange, to put it simply. That's why. That's the reason I've fled the nest and ventured to this far off land. Exchange is what's brought me here, and it's been ever so kind to me as well.
Back in September 2014, I was informed about a travel exchange in my town. With some persuasion form my Mother, I went to an info-night and go the details. Flash forward 11 months and I've done multiple interviews, written a few speeches and shaken dozens of hands. Somewhere along that process however, I was accepted to be an exchange student with my local Rotary Club. But what does that mean exactly? Lots, actually.
It means spending a year in a Country halfway around the world, moving in with four new families, going to a new school, and (hopefully) learning a new language. In January 2015, I learned that my new home would be in Germany. The fair-sized town of Soltau, to be precise. With 22,000 people, it was bigger than my dinky little hometown, but not big enough to be overly busy. A nice balance if you ask me.
